PS5X Emulator: Run PS5 Games on Xbox Hardware
PS5X refers to an experimental Xbox port of KytyPS5, an open-source PlayStation 5 translation layer. The developer publishes it as “KytyPS5 for Xbox,” a UWP app for Xbox Series X|S Developer Mode. It is a research build, not an official Sony or Microsoft product, and desktop compatibility does not guarantee Xbox support.
Compatibility list and frame-rate status
No maintained Xbox compatibility or FPS list appears in the project releases. These examples are reported demonstrations, not official ratings; developer-verified frame rates are unavailable.
| Game | Xbox evidence | FPS status |
|---|---|---|
| Quake II (PS5 build) | Short demo reported | No official benchmark |
| GEX Trilogy | Boot test reported | Not published |
| Hellboy: Web of Wyrd | Boot test reported | Not published |
| Marvel Cosmic Invasion | Boot test reported | Not published |
See the developer’s demonstration, Xbox releases, and project README. The named titles are visible in the demo; no FPS figures or maintained compatibility ratings are published there.
How to install the Xbox build
The project supports Series X|S only; follow its current release notes because builds change.
- Install the Xbox Dev Mode app from Microsoft Store. Note its code, register an app developer account in Partner Center, enter the code on Microsoft’s activation page, then select Switch and restart in the console app. See Microsoft’s instructions.
- In Dev Home, find the Xbox Device Portal address. Open it on a PC on the same network.
- Download and unzip the current package from the project releases. In Device Portal, choose Add, select the `.msix`, add both files in `Dependencies`, and install.
- In Dev Home, set the app type to Game, then follow the project’s documented game-folder setup.
- Load only game data you are legally entitled to use. Expect crashes or rendering issues.
Developer Mode is for testing, and retail games require switching back to Retail Mode. See the Microsoft FAQ.
Frequently asked questions
Does PS5X support every PS5 exclusive?
No. A boot demo does not prove a full playthrough, stable performance, or support for other versions. The project warns that Xbox compatibility can differ from desktop.
Can I use it on Xbox One?
No. The current release requires Series X|S; confirm requirements on its release page.
Is emulation legal?
Rules vary by jurisdiction and by how game files, keys, or firmware were obtained. The project distributes no games or copyrighted system software; use only legally obtained files. This is general information, not legal advice.
